Did she call me "Ma Ma"?

A few days ago while busy on my housework and Ru was playing by herself on her playmat, i heard she calling out sounds similar to "mama". I thought she was simply making baby talks plus she has yet 6 months old, too early to start talking right?

Two days ago before bedtime when hubby and the gals were playing in their room and I was making milk for Xi, Ru suddenly called "mama" again. This time everyone heard, especially Xi who kept shouting "Mei mei is calling mama, mei mei is calling mama". My heart melt when i heard my precious baby made her 1st word which was "mama" and quickly went to hug her.

Yesterday while driving the gals to hubby's office, Xi made Ru cry until so bitterly, and she called again "Ma!!!". Aiyoh... I wished i was not driving then and can carry her to give her comfort.

Has Ru really started "talking" and calling me? Actually I can't be 100% sure yet as at now but I do think she will start talking soon as she has been making so much noise lately when people talking to her, and humming along her sister when she sings.

A fun day out at Da Yi's house

Two weekends ago when hubby was away, my elder sis and her hubby, David, came to our house in the morning, brought us breakfast, then off we left home for a day out with the gals. My sis and David adore the gals, and the gals have great affection to them as well.

We went to the NTUC at Bukit Timah Plaza for some groceries before we headed back to their condo. The condo's playground is newly refurbished and Xi had a really good time playing with the slides which is her favourite, though she only dared to slide down slowly at the beginning. To encourage her, David, my BIL slided along with her and challenged her to see who can slide first, and it worked! Xi not only played with the slides which are of lower height, but also went up further to slide down from the higher ones. Xi also first time played with the swing which is specially for younger kids. She enjoyed it very much and not scared of swinging high. Ru though still too young to play any of these, she had an equal good time soacking in the comfortable morning sun and the swift wind.

After lunch, Xi surprisingly followed my sis to her bedroom for nap. We were surprised because all this while she only wants me or my aunty to accompany her to sleep. My little gal has grown up already and not as sticky as before. I am pretty pleased at this little milestone of Xi.

After her nap (whilst Xi managed to take 1.5 hours of nap, Ru was wide awake throughout the afternoon. Haiz.... Don't know why she can always nap so well at her nanny's place but never during weekends when we look after her.) we brought the gals to swim! If you have followed the blog, you will know Xi was afraid of water and does not like swimming. So we were pretty happy when she enjoyed soaking in the pool with her new Hello Kitty swim float and some toys to play. She even followed my BIL to adult pool. Ru cried a bit initially when she was in the pool, due to the coolness of the water, but after awhile she was happy "floating" on the water. That set us for more swimming for the gals in the future. :)

Thanks to my sis and BIL for a great day! Hope next time Papa will be able to join us.

你懂Micho Jackson 吗? "Do you know Micho Jackson?"

That was what my big little gal asked her Yi Po one fine day when the whole world was mourning for Michael Jackson. Obviously she learned of "Michael Jackson" from my uncle (her "Tiu Gong") when he mentioned this name to her the day before. When asked her further whether MJ is a girl or boy, her answer is "girl", haha... Guess the kids equalise long hair to girls and short hair to boys.

Just want to record down the following conversations I had with Xi just a few days ago. I am amazed at how my 2-year-old gal knows the cause and effect so well:

Mummy: 歙,妈咪昨天去那里? (Xi, where did mummy go yesterday?)
Xixi: 去买报纸。 (Go to buy newspaper.)
Mummy: 为什么妈咪没有带小歙去?(Why mummy did not bring Xixi along?)
Xixi: 因为下雨。(Because it was raining.)
Mummy: 妈咪下次才带你去,ok?(Mummy will bring you along next time, ok?)
Xixi: Ok, 下次没有下雨妈咪才带我去.(Ok, next time mummy will bring me if no raining.)

Xi: 妈咪,我要吃葡萄。(Mummy,I want to eat grapes.)
Mummy: 没有葡萄了喔!(No more grapes already.)
Xi: 我不要吃blueberry。(I don't want blueberry.)
Mummy: 妈咪给你apple ok?(How about Mummy give you apple, ok?)
Xi: Ok,用手吃。(Ok, i want to use hand to eat.)
Mummy: 你不要用fork吃吗?(You don't want to use fork?)
Xi: 不要,用手吃。 妈咪切小小块,不要大大块。 (No, I want to use hand. Mummy cuts into small pieces, don't want big pieces.)

The gal who eavesdrops

There were many occassions Xi would say something which caught us off guarded and wonder how come she knew, as in we never mentioned or talked about those stuff to her or directly in front of her. After some thoughts, then we realised she must have constantly overhearing our conversation and remembering them even though most of the time we just mentioned casually once and forgot afterward.

Some examples:

1) Papa was cleaning the windscreen of our car in a petrol station.

Xi: 爸爸在做什么? (What is Papa doing?)
Mummy: 洗镜子。(Cleaning the windscreen.)
Xi: 有鸟大便。 (Got bird shit.)
Mummy: Ha???
Xi: 树上有小鸟大便。 (Bird from the tree shits)
She meant the windscreen was dirtied by bird shit from tree.

2) When at 姨婆 (Yi Po)'s house,

Xi: 歙歙要进hospital了! (Xixi is going to hospital.)
Yi Po: 为什么呢? (Why?)
Xi: 因为歙歙生病。 (Because Xixi is sick.)
My aunt later asked me whether the doctor mentioned of hospital in front of her, then i recalled she actually overheard i asked her papa that time during blood test whether need to admit her to hospital if her blood test showed she has dengue.

3) During a journey to fetch hubby after work:

Mummy: Xixi, where are we going now?
Xi: 去接爸爸。(Go fetch Papa.)
Mummy: 去那理接爸爸?(Go where to fetch Papa?)
Xi: 去office接爸爸?(Go office to fetch Papa.)
Mummy: 然后呢?(After that?)
Xi: 去mam mam (eating). (Go eating.)
Mummy: Mam mam 了呢?(After eating?)
Xi: 回家找小姨吃葡萄,冲凉,喝milk milk睡觉。(Go home look for Xiao Yi to eat grapes, shower, drink milk milk sleep.)

Ru is 5 months old

My little baby has started to flip since she was 4 months old and is now an expert in flipping. She loves to flip and will flip whenever she has a chance, including when she is in her playpen time for sleep. So every night I will have to flip her back many times to ensure she does not fall asleep face down.

On Sunday she was wearing this romper which remind me of Xi wearing this same romper when she was 5 months old, so I extracted out a copy of Xi's photo wearing this romper when she was 5 months old. Haha, other than the same romper, the sisters do not look quite alike to each other anymore ya. ;p

Xi (top) and Ru (bottom):

Another milestone of Ru is she has since 4.5 months old started to hold milk bottle by herself. And now, she can hold her bottle until she finishes her milk.

Hopefully in 2 or 3 weeks time, she is able to sit unsupported and I can start her with solid food.

Xi was sick

My big princess was sick since last week. She started having high fever on Sunday but after taking her medicine, the fever remained high, so we brought her to see the GP nearby my aunty's place the next day. Dr Tan changed her medicine to a stronger kind and ask her to bring her for blood test if the fever did not subside on Wednesday.

For the following days until Wed her fever came and went and her mood swing accordingly. When the medicine took effect and her body temperature was normal, she was as active and lovely as usual but when the fever shot up, my poor gal was all cranky. So on Thursday morning, we brought her to the Pasir Ris polyclinic for blood test. Everyone needed to check for body temperature and given mask to wear. Surprisingly Xi was ok with wearing the mask thanks to the cute Mickey prints on the mask and when seeing other gorgor jiejie wearing the mask too. We even took a few photos of us wearing mask:

The blood test result showed she had low count of platelet. Dr Tan said she has viral infection but good news was her fever has started to subside. He asked us to monitor her for the next two days. If she started having red spots on her body, got to bring her back for blood test as could be dengue. Otherwise, bring her for another blood test again on Sat to make sure the platelet count has back to normal.

The next day, we were shocked to see red spots started to appear on her body and face, so quickly brought her to the polyclinic again for blood test. Thank goodness the blood test showed her platelet has gone up and doctor diagnosed the red spots was due to false measles which will subside in 5 days. During this period, she will feel uncomfortable and thus cranky. Oh, forgot to add, my big little gal did not whine or shed a tear when drawing blood for blood test in both occassions. Bravo my darling! Mummy is so proud of you! :)

Poor gal was waiting at the clinic again, the 4th time within a week. She was such a good gal when the doctor was checking on her that the doctor gave her a thumb up and praised her:

Our big princess has since recovered from her fever and back to her old self. We are glad to find our cheeky and happy little gal back. :)

Comforting Mummy

Last Sunday late afternoon I was having a terrible headache, more like dizziness, caused by the hot weather and lack of sleep. Was feeling very bad and could not eat or do anything. But anyway, we went ahead to the restaurant that evening to celebrate Father's Day with my in laws and family.

In the car to the restaurant, my big little gal was initially shouting when seeing me closing my eyes trying to rest. But after Papa told her mummy was sick, she was ok and passed me her pillow (which is rare!!!)to hold.

In the restaurant, I had no appetite to eat at all. The thought of food made me nausea and wanted to puke. Xi sat beside me quietly fed herself with the food papa put on her plate. She even fed me some vege which I took cos i could not bear to reject her. After her meal, she happily went to play with her cousins. Compared to a few months ago, I am happy to see her becoming more sociable instead of sticking to me all the time. See how cheeky she was and even crawled up to the table to play!

That night, instead of I patted her to sleep, Xi asked me to keep quiet, close my eyes and patted me to sleep... :)
